Questions we get from the serious listener.

Honest answers from the team in Struer who designed the products. If yours isn't here, call us — we'll work through it on the phone.

01 What phono stage do I need for the Moving Coil Cartridge Reference?

A moving-coil input with at least 60 dB of gain and an input impedance settable between 50 and 200 ohms. Our Phono Stage MM/MC covers both — gain is switchable, loading is set by internal jumpers. If you're running a third-party phono stage, check the gain figure first. Low-output MC cartridges are unforgiving of mismatched impedance, and the Reference outputs around 0.35 mV.

02 Does the 9-Inch S-Profile Tonearm fit my existing turntable?

Depends on the mounting standard. The arm uses a standard 23 mm spindle-to-pivot geometry and ships with an SME-pattern mounting plate. Most Japanese and European decks from the 1970s onward accept it directly. Some Rega-based plinths need a stepped collar — we supply one on request. Send us the deck model and we'll confirm the fit before you order.

03 How do I know if the Belt Drive Turntable Pro will work with my amplifier?

The turntable has no built-in phono stage, so you need either an amplifier with a dedicated phono input or a separate phono stage between the deck and your amplifier's line input. If your integrated amplifier is from the last ten years and has no phono input marked on the rear panel, you'll need the Phono Stage MM/MC. Our Integrated Amplifier 80W includes a phono input that handles both MM and MC.

04 What is your warranty on cartridges and tonearms?

Two years on the Moving Magnet Cartridge and the 9-Inch S-Profile Tonearm. The Moving Coil Cartridge Reference carries two years on the body and mechanical assembly — stylus tip replacement after extended use is a service item, not a warranty claim, which is standard across the category. We repair or replace under warranty at our workshop. Shipping both ways is covered for the first twelve months.

05 Do you ship outside the UK and Europe?

We ship to the UK, EU, Norway, and Switzerland as standard. For other destinations — North America, Japan, Australia — contact us directly. Cartridges travel well; tonearms and turntables are heavier and require specific crating. We quote shipping and any applicable import duties before you confirm. We don't absorb customs charges, but we document the paperwork correctly so clearance is straightforward.

06 Can I return a cartridge I've already installed and used?

No. Once a cartridge stylus has tracked a record, it's a used item and can't be resold. If the cartridge arrived damaged or has a confirmed manufacturing fault, that's a warranty matter — different process entirely. For everything else, we ask that you check compatibility before ordering. We're happy to advise before purchase; the Contacts page has our direct line.

07 How long does delivery take on the Integrated Amplifier 80W?

UK orders: three to five working days. EU destinations: five to ten working days depending on country. The amplifier ships double-boxed on a pallet courier — not parcel post. You'll get a tracking reference once it leaves the workshop. If you're in Germany, France, or the Netherlands, delivery is usually at the shorter end of that window.

08 Do you offer a trade-in on older turntables or tonearms?

Sometimes. We take in selected vintage decks and arms in good mechanical condition — Thorens, Linn, older SME-equipped tables — assess them in the workshop, and either refurbish for resale or part them out. If you have something you want to trade against the Belt Drive Turntable Pro or the 9-Inch tonearm, describe it on the Contacts page. We'll tell you honestly whether it's worth sending.

Founded 2011 · Struer, Denmark

Brandt & Grove. A workshop on the Danish coast. A century on, still in the same town.

What we make: a short list of turntables, phono stages, integrated amplifiers, and the cables and accessories that connect them properly. We started in 2011 when Thomas Brandt cleared out a storage room and began importing direct from three European distributors he had already worked with for a decade. Four people then. Six now.

The daily routine is unglamorous. Boxes arrive. We check them against spec sheets. Cartridges get aligned before anything ships. If a tonearm bearing feels loose on arrival, it goes back — we don't pass that on. We've returned roughly one unit in eleven to suppliers over the years. That number matters to us.

We don't do home-cinema bundles. We don't stock wireless party speakers. We don't offer a subscription unboxing service. If that's what you're after, there are other places.

What we do: turntables from belt-drive entry level through to direct-drive reference decks, phono stages from solid-state MM/MC through to valve topology, and integrated amplifiers rated to drive a realistic load — 4 Ω minimum impedance, not the 8 Ω fantasy figure some manufacturers print. We carry a small selection of moving-coil cartridges and replace styli in-house on most common headshells.

Join the community of collectors and engineers who've trusted us since 2011 — the kind of buyer who reads the Stereophile measurement archive before he calls, and who expects a straight answer when he does. That's who we're here for. Take the next step and talk to us before you buy. We'd rather spend twenty minutes on the phone than have you send something back.

Analogue done without shortcuts.

We don't stock anything we haven't run on a reference system first. If the azimuth's off at the factory, we correct it before it leaves us. That's not a selling point — it's just how the work should be done.

Customer letters

Notes from listeners.

Verified buyers, real listening rooms. We don't filter for tone — only for whether the system has been on long enough to break in.

★★★★★

"Running the Brandt & Grove tonearm into a Nagra VPS phono stage and the channel separation is cleaner than anything I've had at this price point. Anti-skate tracks precisely across the full range of the test record. No chatter, no resonance from the plinth. I've owned four tables in fifteen years and this one stays."

Friedrich M.
Friedrich M. audiophile collector, 20 years
★★★★★

"Compared it directly against the previous model I ran for six years. The new bearing housing is noticeably quieter — I measured the noise floor with a stylus-down track and it's a good 4 dB lower than what I was getting before. The platter takes about forty hours to fully settle but the published break-in guidance is accurate."

Pieter v.d.B.
Pieter v.d.B. verified owner, 3rd-generation upgrade
★★★★☆

"The moving-coil cartridge alignment tool that ships with the unit is genuinely useful — not the usual plastic protractor. Setup took me about two hours including VTA adjustment. Deducting one star only because the dust cover hinges feel slightly underspecified relative to the rest of the build. Everything else is as solid as the spec sheet implies."

Olivier P.
Olivier P. audio society member
★★★★★

"I spent thirty years maintaining studio playback equipment. The tolerances on the spindle are tighter than several professional-grade decks I worked with in that time. The motor speed variance is within the stated ±0.05% — I checked with a strobe disc over three sessions. That's not marketing copy, that's just what it does."

Gerhard K.
Gerhard K. retired broadcast engineer
★★★★☆

"First proper turntable after years on a mid-range belt-drive. The difference in bass definition through my integrated amplifier was immediate. I'd have given five stars but the setup instructions assume more prior knowledge than a first-time buyer has. Called the shop and they walked me through cartridge loading without any impatience. Good people."

Lars J.
Lars J. first-time buyer
★★★☆☆

"The table itself is excellent — plinth damping is effective and the arm tracks my low-compliance cartridge without complaint. Shipping took sixteen days, which was longer than indicated. Packaging was thorough and nothing was damaged, but I'd ordered it ahead of a specific listening session and missed the window. Would order again for non-time-sensitive purchases."
